The DASH eating plan known to help lower blood pressure and cholesterol has also been found to reduce the risk of a heart attack.

The DASH diet emphasizes fruits, veggies and lean meats, while reducing saturated fats, red meat and sugar.

Researchers at Johns Hopkins found patients on the DASH plan lowered their 10-year risk of heart attack by 18-percent compared to those eating a typical American diet. DASH also reduced bad cholesterol by eight percent and lowered blood pressure as well.
