A Colorado Springs bank robber who fired his gun at someone he tried to carjack following the robbery, is still loose at this hour.
Colorado Springs Police Sgt. Steve Noblitt says the Key Bank on S. Academy Blvd. in the Mission Trace Shopping Center was robbed by a man with a gun. Before officers could get to the scene the suspect left the bank and attempted to car-jack a vehicle that was driving by the location. The vehicle did not stop and the suspect fired a shot, striking the vehicle in the side, but missing the occupants.
The suspect fled that area on foot before officers could arrive. While attempting to escape, the suspect dropped the bag of money after a dye pack exploded in the bag.
Nearby Sierra High School was locked down for hours following the robbery, as a precaution.
The suspect is described as a black male wearing a black coat, gray hooded sweatshirt under the coat, and a plaid shirt over the sweatshirt. He was described as having a medium build and being approximately 5'8" tall.
