Republican gubernatorial candidate Dan Maes has picked up endorsements from two former Colorado senators.

His campaign announced Monday that former Sens. Wayne Allard and Hank Brown have endorsed his run for governor. Allard says as a businessman, Maes will apply private-sector principles to public problems.

Allard and Brown both served in the U.S. House and Senate.

Brown was also president of the University of Colorado and the University of Northern Colorado.

Maes defeated former congressman Scott McInnis in last week's GOP primary to challenge Democrat John Hickenlooper in November.

Former GOP congressman Tom Tancredo is running for governor on a third party ticket.
