District 70 in Pueblo County will be under new leadership beginning July 1st. Superintendent Dan Lere turned in his resignation recently. The school board accepted the resignation this week and tapped Associate Superintendent Ed Smith to take over.
Lere worked for the district for 6 years.
The district has had a tough few months as leaders work through a budget shortfall of nearly $6 million. The district school board has made controversial moves to make up the deficit, including outsourcing bus service and going to a 4-day school week for the 2010-2011 school year.
