Some big accusations are being made at Bates Elementary School in Colorado Springs. A father is angry with the school for alleged abuse to his son on Monday. "I actually find out from my son that he's sitting in his desk, just swinging his legs. Then the teacher proceeds to make him wrap therapeutic rubber bands around his legs." explains the boy's dad, Clifton Morgan, "She's not really thinking about child safety."
We took the father's complaint to School District 11, because it's a personnel matter there's not a whole lot they can say. "I can tell you that there's been an accusation." says Elaine Naleski with the school district. A full scale investigation has been ordered by D-11, but the 3rd grade teacher remains on the payroll. "There is an investigation going on." says Naleski, "The teacher will be on administrative leave until the investigation is completed."
Morgan wants the teacher fired. He says his son couldn't move his legs. And if there was an emergency, the boy could have been seriously hurt. "It could cause bodily harm if there's a fire drill, a bomb threat, really anything. He could get up, fall down and hurt himself." says Morgan.
Any action will have to wait until the investigation is over, but D-11 says their focus is squarely on student safety. "We're looking out for the student." explains Naleski, "We want to put the student first. We will make sure that the students are safe." At the end of the day, Morgan says his son just wants everything to be normal again. "He doesn't want this teacher mad at him. He doesn't want the principal mad at him." he says, "He just wants to go to school."
