The "CU Coaches Caravan" made stops in Colorado Springs and Pueblo on Monday as part of the University of Colorado Athletic Department's first state tour in more than a decade.

The Caravan, which included football coach Dan Hawkins, new basketball coaches Tad Boyle and Linda Lappe and athletic director Mike Bohn began the day in Erie and continued to Colorado Springs and Pueblo.

Hawkins joined News First 5 Sports Director live on News First 5 at 6:00 p.m. Douglas asked Hawkins to expand on comments he made earlier in the day in Erie when he told the group of boosters "Guys, trust me, we are not that far away." Hawkins told News First ,"I think if you look at where we are, it's a turnover here, a penalty there, it's a kick here, it's a matter of a couple of things and getting a little momentum. But nobody wants to be close. It doesn't help you to be close, but I think we're on the verge of doing some awesome things."

The tour takes the day off tomorrow and will continue in the Vail area on Wednesday, Fort Morgan and Greeley Thursday and Loveland and Broomfield on Friday. The tour will make a trip to the Western Slope later this summer.
