BOULDER-The University of Colorado athletic department will embark on a state tour next week, reviving the tradition for the first time in over a decade. From May 17-21, CU coaches, staff and select student-athletes will hit the road and visit various cities and towns throughout the state.
CU head football coach Dan Hawkins did participate in a "Hawk Talk Tour" where he visited cities around the state in 2008, but this is the first department-wide tour since 1999. Hawkins will also participate at all tour stops in 2010 and will be joined by athletic director Mike Bohn, CU's two new basketball coaches Tad Boyle and Linda Lappe and volleyball coach Liz Kritza on all stops. Most of CU's other head coaches will accompany the convoy at least one day. Select student-athletes and other key department personnel will also join the tour.
"We look forward to having the opportunity to visit many of the outstanding communities of our great state," Bohn said. "We have successfully held productive town hall meetings in and around Boulder and Denver, but we recognize we are fortunate to have stakeholders who support the flagship institution throughout the state and we want to personally visit them to express our gratitude for their support and share the bright future of Buff athletics and the university. We are excited to expand our outreach efforts throughout the summer and visit even more Colorado communities"
The tour will begin Monday and kick off in Erie at the Colorado National Golf Course for breakfast at 8 a.m. before heading south. Lunch will take place in Colorado Springs at Champps Sports Bar at noon before continuing on to Pueblo for a happy hour at the Walking Stick Golf Course at 5 p.m.
On Wednesday, the caravan will convene in Edwards for a lunch at E Town at noon. After a few stops in the Vail area, a happy hour at the Dillon Dam Brewery will conclude the day at 5 p.m.
On Thursday the Buffs will head northeast for a lunch in Fort Morgan at the Country Steak Out at noon before heading to Greeley for a happy hour reception at the Greeley Country Club at 5 p.m.
