The interim president of CSU-Pueblo is from Joplin, Missouri and he happened to be visiting home when the tornado hit. Dr. Julio Leon lives on the north end of Joplin. He says his house wasn't damaged and his family's okay.
Leon says they've been hit by tornadoes before, but mostly in rural areas not the city. He says about 30 blocks have been completely leveled. "A lot of destruction. We were driving today, just checking on some friends and you could see the tremendous devastation. It just looks like a war zone here," said Leon.
Leon says his family had only planned to stay a few days, but they may stay longer now to see if they can help in any way.
