CSPD unveils text-a-tip

COLORADO SPRINGS (AP)-Colorado Springs police unveiled a new initiative that allows people to anonymously send tips on criminal investigations through text messages.

Colorado Springs police reported Thursday that the text-messaging system will also let investigators to respond to tipsters with follow-up questions while maintaining the sender's anonymity.

For example, someone can send police a message alerting them of a suspect's whereabouts and the tip will be handled the same way it is with the CrimeStoppers program.

Police say the department is paying $5,400 for two years to have the program.

You may send tips by typing TIP411 on your phone and including "CSPD" in the body of the text.
