COLORADO SPRINGS, CO- A suspicious device found in Memorial Park Friday shut down the area, but police now say it was just a scare.
The device turned out to be a camera bag with a camera lens inside. It was found along a memorial wall in the park, just yards from a playground area. The east side of the park was shut down for more than an hour as police and a bomb technician investigated.
With the recent Boston Marathon bombings, communities across the country are on edge. Colorado Springs Police say while this turned out to be nothing more than a camera lens and camera bag left behind, they're not taking any chances. They're also thanking the community for being alert and calling it in.
"We encourage people to give us a call when they find a suspicious package that's just left there. Let us determine whether it is safe, and they did exactly what we wanted them to do and that's to give CSPD a call," Lt. Sal Fiorillo with the Colorado Springs Police Department told News 5.
Police want to remind everyone, they would rather you call in a suspicious package then let the incident go unnoticed, potentially resulting in injuries.
