CSPD investigate robbery, chase that ended in an accident

Colorado Springs police continue to investigate a crime spree that ended in two people taken to Memorial Hospital. The robbery in progress call came in to police around 4:00 p.m. Friday.

Police say a suspect first went inside of a business located at the SW Corner of Shelton and Academy. Police did not say whether the suspect tried to rob that particular business first but we do know that the business owner did locked the door so the suspect could not enter.

The same suspect then left that business and went to the Cash America Pawn located at 1891 South Academy. Police say the robbery alarm went off and shots were fired inside of that business by the suspect.

The suspect left the business in a gray Hyundai Sonata when police spotted the suspect vehicle. The police chase started afterwards. The suspect reportedly crashed into a black Tacoma pickup truck. That truck then crashed into a motorcyclist who was taken to Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. The suspect was also taken to Memorial Hospital with traffic related injuries.

The intersection at Powers and Airport remain closed for now. This is an active investigation. We will keep you posted on any new developments.
