CSP Trooper shot, suspect dead in I-70 incident

GARFIELD COUNTY - A state trooper was shot and injured and a suspect is dead after an incident on Interstate 70 near mile marker 129 in east Garfield County.

According to Colorado State Patrol, the trooper stopped to assist a motorist on I-70 when he was shot. His exact condition is unknown at this time. He was taken to Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs.

The suspect is not being identified at this time.

Both directions of Interstate 70 were closed at mile marker 129 near Dotsero due to the investigation. Eastbound traffic reopened just before 10 a.m. There is no estimated time of reopening for westbound traffic at mile marker 130.

The highway is closed for about five miles.
