CSFD Fire Academy graduates

Family and friends of recruits for the Colorado Springs Fire Department training academy 2013-1 gathered to celebrate graduation day for the class. The crowd almost filled the Woodmen Valley Chapel Friday afternoon.

Springs Mayor Steve Bach and interim Fire Chief Tommy Smith spoke at the ceremony. A common theme for the afternoon was the sacrifice and dedication of the department during the Waldo Canyon Fire.  Many members of City Council were also on hand.

Memories of the 16 week academy were shared by cadets and instructors. Family members were given the opportunity to pin the badge on each new firefighter.

The 25 new firefighters will now be assigned to fire stations throughout the city.
