Crystal Park home destroyed by fire

Firefighters will remain at the scene of a massive house fire in Manitou Springs throughout the night to ensure that it doesn't flare up again. The one and a half story home in the 1300 block of Sun Valley Lane caught fire sometime before 7:20 p.m. Tuesday and was completely consumed by flames.

Crystal Park Volunteer Fire Department spokesman Floyd O'Neil says no one was at home at the time and that no one was injured in the course of putting out the fire. Firefighters from several agencies including the Crystal Park Fire Department, Manitou Springs Fire Department, Colorado Springs Fire Department and the Northeast Teller County Fire Protection District all responded to the blaze.

O'Neil says they were able to keep the fire contained just to the home itself. The Crystal Hills subdivision is a gated-community in the foothills of Manitou Springs where homes are built among wild land areas.

Once the rubble has cooled, fire investigators will begin searching for evidence of how and where the fire started.
