Fire crews remain on a blaze that forced the evacuation of hundreds of homes in the foothills west of Denver. About 60 firefighters had contained at least 50 percent of the fire by Tuesday night.

High winds quickly spread flames that covered 10 to 12 acres and crept to within just a few feet of houses in the Conifer area. About 340 homes were evacuated, but residents were allowed to go home around 6:30 p.m.

No property damage or injuries were reported. But residents are without power and the electricity might stay off throughout the day. Authorities believe electrical wires downed by high winds started the fire, but they're still investigating.
