Crews gain upper hand on Colorado wildfire

Crews continue to make progress on a wildfire in southwestern Colorado despite drier, warmer weather and higher winds.

The fire burning on nearly 4 square miles, or about 2,600 acres, was 60 percent contained Wednesday evening. Earlier estimates said the fire was larger, but officials revised that based on better information.

Full containment is expected early Friday. Fire information officer Laura McConnell says crews haven't lost any ground despite wind gusts and warmer weather. Fire managers say a downed power line sparked the fire Saturday. High winds drove the flames in San Miguel Canyon over the weekend before cold temperatures and moisture helped calm the fire.

The fire is burning in grass, brush, pine trees and sagebrush. About 280 people are fighting the fire.
