The Springer Fire burning in Park County is now estimated to be 59 percent contained, and crews expect full containment by Sunday.
The fire sparked Sunday about 3.5 miles from Lake George in the Pike National Forest and has grown to 1,145 acres. No structures have been damaged, and fire officials report three minor injuries as a result of the firefight.
There are currently 509 firefighting on this fire, including four helicopters. Two heavy air tankers are available as needed by the firefighters. Cooler temperatures gave crews a break over the last two days, but there is a fire weather warning with a red flag beginning today and extending through Saturday evening. Structure protection resources remain in place however there will not be a night shift tonight.
Another community fire briefing is scheduled for Friday evening at 8 p.m. at the Lake George fire station. Park and Teller County Sheriffs, US Forest Service representative, incident command personnel, and the Incident Commander will be in attendance to present progress made on the fire and to answer questions.
