FRISCO, Colo. (AP) - Crews are trying to protect homes from a small wildfire that has broken out near Keystone Resort in the central-Colorado mountains.

Officials say the fire had burned 20 acres by Thursday evening. Nearby homes were evacuated. It wasn't clear how many people were affected.

The Summit Daily News reports strong winds are causing problems.

In northeastern Colorado, evacuations have been lifted for 44 homes near a smoky junkyard fire, which is almost out.

In southern Colorado, officials report progress against two wildfires that have collectively scorched 13,000 acres.

A lightning-sparked fire on the Colorado-New Mexico border is about 40 percent contained. A second fire at Purgatorie River Canyon northeast of Trinidad is 60 percent contained.

Gov. John Hickenlooper has issued a disaster declaration, authorizing up to $2.5 million in state aid for the firefighting costs.
