Fire devastated a whole city block along Court Street in Pueblo in June. The scene remains boarded up, but the clean up can't begin until the investigation is complete. Something businesses on the block wish would happen sooner than later.
Pueblo Fire Department Investigators say they've turned the investigation over to the insurance company that is slated to pick up the investigation on the 18th of August. Meaning clean up remains unscheduled and unknown.
"I'd rather it get cleaned up quicker," says Manager of Rita's Mexican Restaurant, Michael Baca. "A month or two you know would be nice. Let the family have some closure and move on, maybe rebuild."
The fire department's preliminary investigation revealed the fire started in the attic of the building that housed Office Systems Incorporated and Johnson Sport and Ski. Both businesses were destroyed in the fire The ones that remain, express gratitude to first responders in their windows, but they're still concerned over how to deal with the asbestos on the block.
"The asbestos," Baca says, "I'm not really sure if we are going to take any precautions ourselves."
Even though the pile of rubble is only a couple of blocks away from the Pueblo Convention Center and Riverwalk, The Pueblo Chamber of Commerce says it hasn't affected summer visitors in the area.
