Authorities say an elderly Arizona couple found shot to death at a scenic cabin in southern Colorado died as part of a decades-old plan to end their lives before age took its toll.
Lansing C. Holden, 83, and Carol Holden, 78, were found lying side by side July 26 in a remote cabin south of Pagosa Springs. They were from Sedona, Ariz.
Archuleta County Coroner Carl Macht Wednesday ruled the deaths a murder-suicide.
Macht says the couple discussed their intentions with their daughter in the '70s and '80s and left a notorized suicide note that discussed their wishes to be in charge of the timing of their deaths.
Lansing Holden had been an architect; Carol Holden was an editor at a news magazine.
