County scrambles to issue licenses for MMJ centers

Pueblo county is scrambling to process applications for medical marijuana centers. Right now, dispensaries are technically operating illegally under the county's own laws.

In 2010, Pueblo County approved seventeen pre-applications, but they just set regulations in June. Those dispensaries have the state's approval, but they're still waiting for the county to issue local licenses. The county says it'll act swiftly and in the meantime those businesses can still operate.

"We had several hearings before we passed the regulations and every time at those hearing their were people there testifying they needed it for medical purposes, and that's what prompted my decision to approve it," said John Cordova, Pueblo County Commissioner.

There are no medical marijuana centers in the City of Pueblo. City council put on hold on issuing licenses until next year.
