DENVER (AP) - Councilman Michael Hancock has won a runoff election to become Denver's new mayor.
Hancock defeated former state Sen. Chris Romer Tuesday night after an occasionally feisty campaign and more than $4 million in spending. The two were the top vote getters out of 10 candidates in the May 3 election.
Hancock will be sworn in July 18, replacing interim Mayor Guillermo "Bill" Vidal. Denver's last full-term mayor, Democrat John Hickenlooper, became Colorado's governor in January.
