A convicted murderer was sentenced to an additional 10 years in prison Monday for having a weapon in his cell.
Judge Robert Lowrey sentenced Marc Sylvester after a sharpened ball point pen was found in his cell during his murder trial in April. At that time Sylvester was charged with murder in the death of Jennifer Warrent. She was shot a year and a half ago in eastern El Paso County.
Prosecutor Dan Zook said, "Sylvester now faces 58 years in prison. Ten years for the contraband charge and 48 years for second degree murder. This sentence sends a message that violations while in custody will not be tolerated."
Sylvester was found guilty in April of shooting Warren in the head with a high-powered rifle. Her body was discovered in a ditch by a dirt road in eastern El Paso County.
