ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) - Kyle Orton's one-year extension provides Denver's starting quarterback with some security and acknowledgment that he's the unquestioned leader.

It also gives rookie Tim Tebow some time to develop into a pro-set passer and offers Brady Quinn some time to learn the system.

Coach Josh McDaniels said Friday he hopes Tebow and Quinn don't view Orton's extension as dialing down the pressure because he wants them to continue pushing Orton for his starting job.

Orton hasn't shown any signs he's ready to relinquish it. He's made huge strides in his second season with the Broncos and so he'll be getting more than $11 million over the next two seasons with $8.121 million guaranteed.
