The GOP released a document today which they say they'll use a playbook if Americans return control of the House to them. "This is a pledge and Republicans are making this with one voice," said 5th District Rep. Doug Lamborn.
The Pledge to American includes a promise to repeal and replace the health care law. Lamborn says the health care reform the Republicans want would include allowing health care companies to compete across state lines and change laws regarding malpractice lawsuits.
In unveiling the document, House Minority Leader John Boehner said, "Across America, the people see a government in Washington that isn't listening, doesn't get it, and doesn't care. Today that begins to change."
The plan would also reduce government spending to pre-stimulus, pre-bailout levels and impose a hard cap on future discretionary spending.
"There was a lot of overreach by the Democrats," said Lamborn. "Health care is now opposed by more than 60 percent of Americans. The massive spending did not bring us prosperity. It only made things worse. So we've done the wrong things and there was overreaching. We need to get back to fiscal sanity. We need to lower taxes and lower spending at the same time."
