Bisphenol A (BPA) has been in the news for the past few years because of health dangers associated with the chemical, which is widely used in the manufacture of consumer plastic products. BPA has now been banned in some products.
Laboratory tests link BPA with reproduction and development problems because BPA mimics the effects of the female hormone estrogen.
BPA is also used in some polymers used in dental sealants or composites.
The American Dental Association released this statement about BPAs:
The ADA believes any concern about potential BPA exposure from dental sealants or composites is unwarranted at this time. When compared with other sources of BPA, these dental materials pose significantly lower exposure concerns.
