Space Data Corporation showed off some interesting technology in Colorado Springs Wednesday. Workers inflated a balloon that carries radio gear into the sky.
The technology, which has already been used in Afghanistan, allows people on the ground to bounce a signal off the balloon's repeater and allow easy communication on the ground.
The balloon stays in the air at 65,000 to 90,000 feet above the surface. One balloon can provide reliable communications over a 600 mile area for up to 12 hours.
The technology was shown at the 2nd Annual High Altitude and Near Space Conference at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Colordo Springs.
