Emotions are still raw at Lewis Palmer High School. Students returning from Spring Break Monday morning found grief counselors ready to help them cope.
Word spread quickly over the weekend that Levi Patrick, a senior here, was killed in a car accident Saturday coming back from a road trip to California with three of his friends.
"It's the frustration and sadness that goes with losing somebody that you're not supposed to lose," said Principal John Borman.
The Lewis Palmer community has provided an outpouring of support in the days since the Accident.
An impromptu vigil drew hundreds Sunday night, and over 1,200 people have joined a Facebook page set up by his sister Sasha.
At the vigil, she called the community's response "a testament to what God did in him and was doing in him."
The star linebacker and prom king was known as by students and staff alike as a role model in the school.
His track coach, Kurt Clark called Levi "one of our leaders."
"If you asked him to do something, he did twice as much," Clark said.
Two of the other teens were quickly released from the hospital following the accident which happened along Interstate 70 near Vail. The third is recovering and no longer in intensive care.
Plans for a funeral service have not yet been announced.
