Varicose veins are gnarled, enlarged veins frequently seen in the legs, but varcose veins may occur anywhere in the body. Doctors believe that varcose veins occue in the legs and feet more often than elsewhere bacuse of walking and standing.
While varicose veins are not attractive, many people decide to seek treatment because they can also be painful.
Here are some common treatments:
Sclerotherapy
A solution is injected into small or medium-sized veins that causes scarring inside the vein, forcing blood to reroute through healthier veins.
Laser surgery
The laser forces the vein to slowly fade and disappear.
A long vein is removed through small incisions. Patients are typically able to resume normal activities within two weeks.
