COLORADO SPRINGS - The El Paso Board of County Commissioners will consider enacting a four month suspension of any new land use applications for oil and gas exploration at their regularly scheduled meeting Thursday.

The suspension, if approved, would put off the acceptance of new applications until January. Commissioner Amy Lathen says the vote comes in light of information about oil and gas operations that has been presented the two previous town hall meetings and one work session that were held on the drilling permits.

"We need to make sure that we have the right procedures in place before we are asked to consider applications for potentially large drilling operations," Lathen said.

The commissioners have also scheduled a second work session to discuss land use regulations specific to oil and gas exploration following the meeting.
