PUEBLO - County Commissioners in awarded a contract to a new halfway house Wednesday. Intervention Community Corrections Services will lease the facility on Hudson Avenue owned by former Pueblo City Councilman Al Gurule.
That facility was closed by the state back in May. ICCS operates halfway houses and treatment center in Lakewood and Greeley. Commissioner Terry Hart believes Pueblo will be safer under the terms of the new agreement.
"They have a very good reputation in the state and they have a reputation not only of providing the services but also doing a very good job of protecting the community and so that's exactly what we were looking for," Hart said.
The county plans to award a second contract for community corrections services by the end of the year.
