Several local law enforcement agencies will conduct random safety checks of commercial vehicles on Wednesday.

The project involves the Colorado Springs Police Department, the Colorado State Patrol, the Colorado Department of Revenue, El Paso County Sheriff and Monument Police Department. Commercial vehicles, which generally are large and heavy, will be checked for safety. The inspections cover driver qualifications, fatigue, vehicle maintenance, how loads are secured and safety equipment inventory.

The checks are mandated by the federal government.

Motorists should watch for the check points, which will be clearly marked with cones and emergency personnel.
