Commercial Driver Expo highlights demand for truck driving jobs in area

The Commerical Driver Career Expo at the Pikes Peak Workforce Center on Tuesday highlighted the demand for jobs in this booming industry.

Employers tell News 5 that some job seekers already have their Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and are looking to change the type of driving they're doing while others are looking to change their occupation completely. They say a big attraction is being able to set your own hours and make good money.

"The average wage in Colorado is about $40,000 a year," says Bob Gemignani, of the Pikes Peak Workforce Center. "Good drivers can make upwards of $70,000 to $80,000 a year. I think that's a real attraction."

Between 300 and 400 positions were up for grabs at the expo. Directors tell us they plan to hold another expo in the fall.
