The father of Columbine High School shooting victim Daniel Mauser says the 11th anniversary of the tragedy will be a quiet day for him, as he and his family visit the cemetery.

In full-page newspaper ads yesterday, Tom Mauser urged Sen. Mark Udall to support a bill to expand criminal background checks at gun shows nationwide. The two student gunmen at Columbine used weapons purchased at a gun show.

After the shootings, Colorado voters approved a law closing the so-called gun show loophole. Tom Mauser wants Udall to support a bill closing it nationwide.

The Democrat's office says the senator respects Mauser and supported the passage of Colorado's law. A spokeswoman says he'll review the bill's language, but won't make his decision, "in response to pressure from newspaper, radio or television ads."
