For American troops fighting the war on terror in Afghanistan, being away from home can be tough, but some have found a bright spot in the form of stray dogs. Now a woman from Northglenn is trying to help those dogs, that help our troops.
Melissa Kaufman has a friend that's a medic in the Air Force, stationed in Afghanistan who told her how nice it is to have the dogs around, "He's just told me about how great it is to wake up to their wagging tails greeting them each morning. If they've had a bad day with a lot of traumas come in that day, to be able to look at a dog and hug a dog and have that dog nuzzle up to them brightens their day," Kaufman explains.
There is one problem that her friend asked for help with; he mentioned how the dogs were sleeping on rocks, so Kaufman decided to change that. She sent out emails to friends and before long had some help in the form of blankets, dog shampoo, flea collars and even toys and treats.
Now Kaufman is just trying to gather some more supplies before sending a shipment over. If you would like to help provide supplies or make a cash donation to pay for postage, you can contact Kauffman at firstname.lastname@example.org.
