BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials plan to remove several hundred banned fish from Thunderbird Lake in east Boulder.

The koi fish were illegally released into the lake over the past year.

Koi aren't native to Colorado and thrive in widely ranging water conditions. Wildlife officials are worried they will displace more desirable fish species.

Koi also are known to carry several diseases that can hurt wild fish.
