Some in Wyoming say a Colorado utility's rejection of southeast Wyoming wind power as part of its energy supply doesn't negate the need for wind and transmission development in southeast Wyoming.

Xcel Energy released an evaluation last month of bids it received in response to a request for proposals to meet its Colorado energy plan through 2015.

The Wyoming wind industry was surprised to learn that Xcel's report rejected all bids from wind developers in southeast Wyoming. The report says Wyoming wind bids cost more than the best Colorado wind bids and did not show better generation patterns than some Colorado wind bids.

Developers of a proposed transmission line called the Wyoming-Colorado Intertie say Xcel's decision doesn't negate the need for new lines to move power from Wyoming to Colorado.
