Colorado Supreme Court chief justice retiring

 


DENVER (AP) - Michael Bender will step down as chief justice of the Colorado Supreme Court when he hits the state's mandatory retirement age of 72.

Bender said Thursday he plans to work as a lawyer after his birthday on Jan. 7.

Bender was appointed to the court by former Democratic Gov. Roy Romer in 1997 and became chief justice in 2010.
