A Colorado State Patrol trooper who was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving while on duty is free on $1,000 bail.

David Dolan, 48, who was assigned to the Colorado Springs Office, was arrested outside Denver while in uniform and driving a marked Colorado State Patrol car at 7 am Monday. Authorities say several people called 911 to report the car was being driven erratically.

A woman who answered his home phone hung up without commenting Tuesday. It's not clear whether he has an attorney.

Dolan faces charges of driving under the influence and prohibited use of weapons. Colorado law makes it illegal for anyone to have a firearm while intoxicated. He is due in court Monday to discuss his bail.

Dolan is on unpaid leave. The patrol has launched an internal investigation.
