Colorado Springs student first to receive a new full-ride scholarship

Colorado Springs resident, Miette Hope, is the first recipient of the "Vans off the Wall Presidential Scholarship," which is a full ride to the Berklee College of Music in Boston.

Hope is a singer-songwriter who finds therapy - in times of hardship - through the power of music.

"Anything that I go through or experience and I don't know how to feel about it or I want to express the way I feel about it, I will write a song. So most of my songs are based on my experiences I have had and the way that I feel about certain things," she said.

Hope is majoring in musical therapy because she wants to help others through difficult times.

"I want to inspire people - to fund it with more research - and for hospitals and nursing homes to try it out because I have seen the amazing power of music in my own life and I really feel like it could benefit other people's lives," Hope said.

Hope announced the scholarship news at a local radio station today and played some of her music.
