A week from today the USA Pro Cycling challenge starts in Colorado Springs.
The race passes through several areas of our state, but the prologue of the race is right here in the Springs. Cyclists from all around the world are competing. The route through the Springs starts at Garden of the Gods, then down Colorado Ave. through Old Colorado City and ends downtown.
To prepare for the race the city's streets division is busy repairing and re-striping Colorado Ave., fixing medians and doing extra street sweeping along the race route. For drivers that means some delays along Colorado Ave. while the work is being done. The city says the project isn't costing them any extra money. Everything they're doing was budgeted to be done anyway, they just bumped jobs along the race route to the top of their priority list.
We'll have more on how the city's preparing its roads for the race tonight on News First 5.
