Colorado Springs on 'accident alert': Don't call cops for minor accidents

The Colorado Springs Police Department is on 'accident alert' status as of 1:50 p.m. due to road conditions.

That means drivers who get into an accident, they should just exchange information and file a "cold" report later if:
- No one was hurt enough to need medical help.
- No one was killed.
- No public property such as a street sign or utility pole was damaged.
- No one was suspected of driving drunk or under the influence of drugs.

The accident forms are available at any of the police department substations or they can go on line at Springsgov.com and go to the CSPD homepage/Forms & Documents/Counter Reporting.

Drivers should also be reminded to take the appropriate steps to avoid being involved in a traffic accident during adverse weather and road conditions. Drivers need to travel at a safe speed for the conditions and leave an increased and safe following distance from the vehicle in front of them.
