Colorado Springs man convicted in Fort Carson robbery

DENVER - A Colorado Springs man could spend the rest of his in prison after being found guilty on robbery and firearms charges in federal court today.
Joshua Bodean Smith, 22, was arrested in November of 2010 following an investigation by the FBI, the Colorado Springs Police Department and the Army Criminal Investigation Division into an armed robbery at the Burger King on Fort Carson on October 11, 2010.
Smith was also wanted in connection with a robbery at the Cricket Communication Store on South Nevada Avenue from August of 2010.
Prosecutors with the US Attorney's Office say they're satisfied with the outcome of the trial.
"The defendant in this case used a deadly weapon during two robberies," said U.S. Attorney John Walsh. "Thanks to the trial team, and the FBI, Colorado Springs Police Department and Army Investigators, he faces decades in federal prison - and Colorado is a safer place."
Smith faces up to 40 years in federal prison for the two armed robbery charges, a mandatory 10 years to life for using a gun in the first robbery and another 10 years to life on a charge of a crime of violence. He also faces a mandatory 25 years to life for the second robbery.
Smith is expected to be sentenced in February.
