A Colorado Springs man has been hired as the new director of the Great Falls International Airport.

The airport authority board said Monday that John Faulkner, assistant airport director in Colorado Springs, would succeed longtime director Cynthia Schultz. The Colorado Springs airport has about seven times as many boardings annually as Great Falls.

The board voted in October to terminate Schultz' contract by June 30. Schultz, who held the post for 11 years, has said she was concerned about the board's efforts to micromanage the airport rather than rely on the director and her staff. Her attorney also has accused the board of a series of ethical lapses and conflicts of interest - allegations board members denied.
