Colorado Springs ice skater killed

A 14-year-old girl from Colorado Springs has died, after a skiing accident at Breckenridge. Witnesses say Haley Gans was skiing fast on an intermediate trail, when she hit a tree.
Gans was flown to the Breckenridge Medical Center by flight for life, where she was pronounced dead. Her cause of death remains under investigation, but is related to blunt force trauma of the chest. The resort says Gans was wearing a ski helmet.
Gans was an up and coming pairs figure skater at the Broadmoor Skating Club. Some of her fellow skaters were competing out of town Friday night and dedicated their performances to her.
