Investigators say a fight over a stolen iPod on Wednesday escalated into Thursday's double murder. The victims were gang members. Their ages: 17 and 18. One suspect is under arrest.
Late Friday, the victim's were identified as Uriel Rascon, 18 and Luis Burciaga, 17. Each had been shot once in the chest with an assault rifle.
The El Paso County Sheriff's Office reports that both teens were lying on the ground with gunshot wounds when they arrived at the scene of the fight Thursday. Deputies gave CPR to the victims. One was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other died a short time later at the hospital. One victim attended Sierra High School while the other attended New Horizon School.
Juan Vasquez, 19, was arrested early Friday morning at his home on Battle Mountain Rd. He is charged with two counts of first degree murder. He's being held in jail without bond. The murder weapon was recovered at the scene of the shootings.
While neither victim attended Sand Creek High School, School District 49 placed the school on lockdown Friday because of its proximity to the shooting.
