The Colorado Springs City Council has voted to ban camping in public areas, effectively forcing out the homeless who live along Fountain Creek.

The ordinance passed by an 8-1 vote with councilman Tom Gallagher casting the sole vote against the ban.

The law makes it illegal to sleep, to set up a tent or campsite or to store personal belongings on public lands.

At Tuesdays formal council meeting there were discussions of creating a transitional housing facility at a property on S. Nevada to house the homeless who are currently living along the creeks. No formal plans were announced.
