Colorado residents fight to keep electronics out of landfills

Two area organizations teamed up Saturday morning with the Colorado Springs Sky Sox to host a recycling drive.

Arc Thrift Stores, Western Scrap Processing along with the Sox collected dozens of old electronics.

Among the items collected---televisions, computers, CPU monitors, batteries and cell phones.

We're told more than 200 television sets were collected during Saturday's event.

"There's lots of toxins inside of TV's that need to be broken down," Stephanie Landree with Arc Thrift Stores said. "Once we break those down, they can be used in other parts so it's keeping things out of the landfill, recycling and repurposing those TV's."

Some of the salvageable items collected with be refurbished and sold at Arc Thrift Stores across the Springs.

Money raised through those sales will be given the individuals and families with developmental disabilities.
