Colorado researcher wins national science medal

A researcher at the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder will be honored by the White House.
Warren Washington, a senior scientist at NCAR, is one of 10 researchers chosen to receive National Medal of Technology and Innovation. It will be presented later this year.
Washington is a climate researcher who pioneered the use of computer models to predict changes in the atmosphere. He has served as a science adviser to former presidents Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush.
The award was created by a 1959 law to recognize contributions to science and engineering.
It is administered by the National Science Foundation on behalf of the president.
