Goya Foods has recalled its frozen mamey fruit pulp due to possible Salmonella contamination. Mamey is a tropical fruit often used in smoothies.
Just last week, typhoid fever cases in California and Nevada were linked to Goya mamey pulp.
In Colorado, the pulp was distributed at Safeway, SmartCo, Liborio Markets and smaller stores. Produced in Guatemala, the product has a Goya label and comes in a 14-ounce plastic package.
Salmonella is a foodborne bacteria that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
